Ash Holder Tutorial

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. This lovely item is/was for holding the ash from wood stoves or fireplaces until you dumped them. Not a fun job!

All you'll need is the ash holder file.

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.

If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 350 x 250 pixels. This first layer is the Legs layer.

Set your foreground colour to #404145 and your background colour to #67676F. Then click on the gradient symbol in the Colour Pallette, and slide all the way up the image menu that opens, to #1 Foreground-Background and click on that image. Use the following settings:

Get 01legs.sel and Flood-fill.

2. Left Handle layer - 02lefthandle.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient.

3. Inside layer - 03inside.sel. (You may want to come back to this layer later, so you don't have to undo your gradient.) Flood-fill with black.

4. Front layer - 04front.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient. Then go to

Effects - Noise - Add - 8% - Uniform

5. Top layer - 05top.sel. Flood-fill and add the Noise.

6. Slant Top layer - 06slanttop.sel. Flood-fill and add Noise.

7. Side Lid layer - 07sidelid.sel. (You may want to come back to this layer later, too, so you don't have to undo your gradient.) Flood-fill with medium gray (#808080).

8. Lid layer - 08lid.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient and add the Noise.

9. Side layer - 09side.sel. Flood-fall and add Noise.

10. Hinges layer - 10hinges.sel. Flood-fill and go to

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Round preset, and apply.

11. Right Handle layer - 11righthandle.sel. Flood-fill.

12. Wood Handle layer - 12woodhandle.sel. Flood-fill with the Stained Wood pattern in the Colour pattern with an Angle of 17o. Then apply an Inner Bevel with the Pillow preset.

You're all done. Congratulations!
