Barrister's Bookcase

This tutorial was made with PSP 7. It only has one selection and is really easy and quick. You can get it here.

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Make a new image, 395 x 324 pixels. Flood-fill with the wood pattern of your choice, or one of the wood patterns that comes with PSP. (I used Finished Wood, Scale 60, Angle 0o.) Turn off this layer by clicking on the glasses in the Layer Pallette, so you can see the next steps better.

2. Glass layer. Make this new layer and we'll come back later.

3. Upper Panel layer - 01upperpanel. Flood-fill with your wood pattern, then go to:

Selections - Modify - Contract 10 pixels
Hit delete
Selections - Invert

Then use the Magic Wand to select the frame:

Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel

4. Get 01upperpanel.sel again, and go to

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V & H 1, Opacity 90, Blur 5
Repeat, with V & H minus 1.

5. Use the Magic Wand and click anywhere inside the panel. Then go down to the Glass layer, by clicking on it in the Layer Pallette, and go to

Selections - Modify - Expand 2 pixels.
Flood-fill with one of the metallic gradients
Lower the opacity of the layer to about 30%, using the slider on the right of the Layer Pallette.

6. Keeping the first layer turned off, merge the other layers by right-clicking on one of them in the Layer Pallette and choosing Merge Visible.

Turn on the Back layer, so you can position the other panels. Then open the Merged layer you just made and go to Layers - Duplicate.

7. Select all (CTRL-A) and click on the panel with the Magic Wand . Now, hold down the SHIFT key and keep pressing on the down arrow on the keyboard until you've got this bottom panel in place. (This keeps the sides aligned.) Duplicate this layer.

8. Now, select all again (CTRL-A), click on the panel, and using the SHIFT key, keep pressing on the up arrow until the panel is centred, and you're done!

If you like the books I used, you can find them here.

I hope you like your bookcase!
