Antique Book Case
This tutorial was written with PSP 7. All you need is the
bookcase.zip and
woodtexture files. The wood texture is from
.
The terms of use are
here
NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here
1. Open a new file, 350 x 440 pixels. Name this layer
Back, and get 01back.sel. Flood-fill with the wood texture you downloaded, (or any wood texture you like), Scale 100, Angle 90
o, and go to
Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast
Brightness minus 40, Contrast 0
2. Shelves layer - 02shelves.sel. Flood-fill with your wood texture, Angle 0
o. Go to
Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use these settings:
Then go to
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V & H 3, Opacity 80, Blur 5, Colour black
If you use a light-coloured wood, you may want to lower the Opacity.
3. Glass layer. We'll come back to this layer.
4. Glasswood layer - 03glasswood.sel. Flood-fill with your pattern, and add the same Inner Bevel.
5. Front layer - 04front.sel. Flood-fill with wood texture.
6. Door Frame layer - 05doorframe.sel. Flood-fill and apply the same Inner Bevel. Click inside the frame with the Magic Wand

.
7. Glass layer. Open the Glass layer we made earlier, by clicking on the layer in the Layer Pallette. Go to
Selections - Modify - Expand - 2 pixels.
Flood-fill with a metallic gradient, and lower the opacity, by using the slider on the right hand side of the Layer Pallette, to around 30%. Click on the Door Frame layer and make the next layer:
8. Lowest Ridge layer - 07ridge1.sel. Flood-fill, Angle 0
o and use the same Inner Bevel.
9. Middle Ridge layer - 08ridge2.sel. Flood-fill and apply the Inner Bevel.
10. Upper Ridge layer - 09ridge3.sel Flood-fill and Inner Bevel.
11. Lower Ridge layer - 10lowerridge.sel. Flood-fill, Inner Bevel.
12. Kickplate layer - 11kickplate.sel. Flood-fill.
13. Handle layer. Using your Selection Tool

, draw a small rectangle. Flood-fill with white and apply any Blade Pro preset you like, or go to Effects - Texture Effects - Sculpture - Gold preset.
14. If you make a layer over the Shelves layer, you can place whatever you want in the bookcase.
Congratulations! I hope you like your Antique Bookcase.
