Graniteware Coffee Pot and Stock Pot

This tutorial was written with PSP 7, but should work with earlier versions.

All you will need for this tutorial is the coffeepot.zip file,
Snowflakes Filter, OR
Universe Image Creator and PSP.

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1.  Open a new file, 250 x 300.

Handle Layer - 01handle.sel. Flood-fill with #093FBB and then go to Effects - Plug-in Filters and get VDL Adrenaline - Snowflakes and use the following settings:

2.   Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel, and apply the following settings:

3. Front.  02front.sel. Flood-fill and apply the filtre again.

4. Rim.  03rim.sel. Flood-fill with black. Go to Selections - Modify - Contract 2 pixels. Keep Selected!

5. Lid.  Make a new layer, Lid, flood-fill with the blue and apply the filtre. Go to

Selections - Modify - Contract 7 pixels, and then to
Selections - Invert.

Using your Magic Wand , click on the outer rim. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel, and use the following settings:

6. Top Lid.  04toplid.sel. Flood-fill and apply your filtre, but if you're using VDL Adrenaline, change Amount to 9 and Size Range to 46 (these are the first two settings).

7. Ring.  05ring.sel. Flood-fill and apply the last Inner Bevel you used.

8. Spout Opening.  06spoutopening.sel. Flood-fill with black.

9. Spout Shading.  07spoutshading.sel. Flood-fill with black. Go to the right-hand of the Layer Pallette, and move the slider to 50.

You're all done. Congratulations! You have a brand new coffee pot. If you would like a pot that's been used, here's how:

Aging the Pot

Merge all layers, and Select All (CTRL-A) and then click on the pot with your Magic Wand. Keep selected and make a new layer, Aging. Then click on the Air Brush tool and use the following settings:

Round
Size 100
Hardness 50
Opacity 30
Step 25
Density 10

Swish your cursor around until you get the effect you like. If you just want an aged effect, just go around lightly, but if you want it to look as though it just came off the campfire, make it quite dark and sooty on the bottom like this:

Stock Pot

You can get the Stock Pot selections here.

1.  Open a new image, 268 x 331 pixels.

Knobs.  Get 01knobs.sel. Flood-fill with medium gray (#808080) and go to Effects 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use the following settings:

2. Back.  02back.sel. Flood-fill with #093FBB, and if you're using VDLAdrenaline, here are the settings:

Darken the back by going to Colors - Brightness/Contrast and set Brightness to minus 20 and Contrast to 0.

3. Back Rim.   03backrim.sel. Flood-fill with the blue.

4. Pot.  04pot.sel. Flood-fill and apply the snowflake filtre.

5. Front Rim.  05frontrim.sel. Flood-fill with blue. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow with the following settings:

V 2, H 0, Opacity 54, Blur 3, Colour black.

6. Handle.  Flood-fill with medium gray and go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use the same settings as before.

7. Pot Lid.  07potlid.sel. Flood-fill with black. Go to Selections - Modify - Contract 1 pixel. Flood-fill and apply the filtre.

Go to Selections - Modify - Contract 10 pixels. Flood-fill with black, contract 1 pixel and flood-fill with blue and apply the filtre. Keep selected. Make a new layer, Cutout.

8. Cutout.   Contract 5 pixels. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout, and use these settings:

V & H 2, Opacity 60, Blur 47

Then lower the opacity of the layer to about 60, by using the slider on the right-hand side of the Layer Pallette.

9. Lid Handle.  08lidhandle.sel. Flood-fill with blue and go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow and use these settings:

V & H 2, Opacity 70, Blur 3, Colour Black.

Repeat the Drop Shadow, changing V & H to minus 2.

Optional:  If you want to age the pot, you can use the same technique as for the Coffee Pot, above.
