Colonial Deed Box Tutorial
PSP 7 and PSP 8
This tutorial uses Alpha Channels selections, so that it will be easier to use for those who have PSP 8, although it is written in PSP 7. There is a tutorial for using the Materials/Colour Pallette in PSP 8
here. Just press the Back arrow to return.
All you will need is the
Deedbox.zip file.
The terms of use are
here
NOTE: Until the last step, you will only be using two colours. If you set your foreground to #1C1618 and your background to #B49779, you will be able to flood-fill the dark brown as usual and flood-fill with the tan by right clicking on the selection you are filling.
1. Open the deedboxalpha.psp image which you downloaded. Press SHIFT-D to make a duplicate, and then you can close the original image.
On the Layer Pallette, click on the first layer, Handle. Then go to
Selections - Load from Alpha Channel
Click on 01handle
Flood-fill with #1C1618, then go to
Effects - 3D Effects - Round preset
For PSP 8, get the selections by going to
Selections - Load/Save Selections - Load selection from Alpha Channel
Click on the selection you want, and then on Load
2. Box layer - 02box from Alpha Channel. Flood-fill with the same colour and then go to
Effects - Texture Effects - Sculpture
Use #11 (cementedrock.bmp) and change the colour to #1C1618, like this:
Don't worry about the other settings, they will be filled in automatically.
3. Box 1 layer - 03box1 from Alpha Channel. Flood-fill with #B49779 and go to
Effects - Noise - 20%, Uniform, then
Effects - Geometric Effects - Pinch 50%
4. Skip the Garlands layer, we'll come back to it later. Click on the Top layer and get 04 top from the Alpha Channels. Flood-fill with #1C1618 and go to
Effects - Texture Effects - Sculpture, with the same settings.
5. Rectangle layer - 05rectangle. Flood-fill with #B49779.
6. Top Band layer - 06topband. Flood-fill with #B49779.
7. Lock Flap layer - 07lockflap. Flood-fill with #1C1618. Then, using the Magic Wand

, click in the opening of the flap. (You may have to zoom in.) Flood-fill with black and go to
Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Round preset.
8. Click on the Flowers layer. Then open the flowers.psp you downloaded and copy it (CTRL-C). Go back to your Deed Box image and paste into place (CTRL-E).
9. Click on the Garlands layer. Open the garland.psp image and copy and place the garland. Then press CTRL-E again and place the second garland, and you're done!
