Fieldstone House

This tutorial was written for PSP 7, but is quite simple and will work with earlier versions that handle selections. You will need to be familiar with using Layers.

All you need are PSP and fieldstonehouse.zip, which has the selections and images.

The terms of use are here

1. Make a new image, 450 x 370 pixels.

Foundation layer -- go to Selections - Load from disk, and click on 01foundation.sel. Flood-fill with the Cemented Rock pattern at 50%.

If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here
2. Make a new layer, Addition Back. Get 02addition.sel and flood-fill with the siding pattern--Keep Selected! (Just left-click on the white part of the image below and Save to get the siding. You might as well snag the fieldstone pattern, too, and leave it open on your desktop!)

NOTE: If you wish to colourise the siding, instructions are here.
Press your Shift key down, and press the Arrow key pointing left six times. This moves the whole Addition Back over by 6 pixels.

3. Addition layer - get 02addition.sel again, and flood-fill it with the siding pattern.

4. Screen Frame layer - get 03screenframe.sel, and flood-fill with white.

5. Using the Magic Wand, click inside the Screen frame and then go to

Selections - Modify - Expand 1 pixel--keep selected!

Make a new layer, Screen, and flood-fill with light gray (#C00000). Then go to

Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds,
Width 4, Opacity 50, Horizontal.

Use the Blinds effect again, this time unchecking horizontal. Then lower the opacity of this layer to 42.

6. Make a new layer - Addition Roof, and get 04additionroof.sel. Flood-fill with any colour you'd like for your roofs (I used #C00000). If you'd like a shingled effect, go to

Effects - Texture Effects- Blinds,
Width 6, Opacity 12

If you'd like a more pronouced effect, you can make the Opacity higher.

Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop shadow:

7. Main House layer - 05mainhouse.sel. Flood-fill with the fieldstone pattern, making sure the Scale% is 100.

8. Chimneys layer - 06chimneys.sel. Flood-fill with the fieldstone pattern. To finish off the chimneys, get 07chimneytops.sel and flood-fill with dark brown or black.

9. Roof layer - 08roof.sel. Flood-fill with the colour you've chosen for the roofs, and if you're using the blinds effect, go to Effects - Texture - Blinds and apply the same settings. Then apply the same Drop Shadow as you did on the Addition Roof, but change the Horizontal setting to 0.

10. Door Frame - 09doorframe.sel. Flood-fill with #F7F5F5, then go to

Selections - Modify - Contract 6 pixels,

Press CTRL-X and then go to Selections - Invert.

Click on the frame, and it will be selected. Then go to:

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel

The Door
Door Layer - 10door.sel. Leave selected and open the Door image you downloaded in the *.zip file. Copy it by pressing CTRL-A and then CTRL-C, and then go to your fieldstone house image, and press SHIFT-CTRL-L to paste the door into the selection.

Now, go to Selections - Invert. Then add a Drop Shadow:

V & H 4, Opacity 30, Blur 9.

The Windows
There are two different windows included in the *.zip file. Window1.psp is all complete and gives the effect of Venetian Blinds.

Window.psp has many layers, and if you open one of the curtain layers, a blue, yellow, or pink curtain will appear in your window. There is also a blank layer, called Your Own Fill, in which you can put any effect you wish.

Just place the windows where you will.

The Steps
Last step (pun intended) - just copy and paste into place.

You're all done! Congratulations! I hope you are pleased with your new house.

Optional - Smoke. If you'd like smoke coming out of your chimney(s), you can use the smokebyHood.psp file to copy and paste. This smoke is from a tube made by Robin and given away at her excellent site, The Hood. She has retired the site after giving so much to the graphics community. (You will have to enlarge the canvas by going to Image - Canvas Size.)
