Victorian Folkhouse PSP Tutorial

This tutorial was done with PSP 7, but can be done with most other versions, too. It is fairly easy to do.

All that you will need is the Folk House file.

How to Get The Alpha Selections
Selections - Load/Save Selections - Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Click on the selection you want and then on Load


1. Foundation - Flood-fill with black.

2. Roof Left Side - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

3. Roof Right Side - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

4. Inside - We'll get back to this later.

5. Facade - Flood-fill with #FBFEFB. Then, using the Magic Wand , click in all the large window openings whil holding down the SHIFT key. Keep selected and then click on the Window Shadows layer.

6. Window Shadows layer

Selections - Modify - Expand 1 Pixel
Selections - Invert
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V&H 8, Opacity 48, Blur 8, Color Black


7. Left Facing - Download the pattern below by right-clicking, and keep it open on the desktop. Then get the Left Facing selection and Flood-fill with the pattern, Scale 35%, Angle 315.

8. Roof Left - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 10, H 0, Opacity 43, Blur 15, Colour black.


9. Roof Middle - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

10. Roof Middle Side - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

11. Horizontal Colour - Flood-fill with #83998C.

12. Eave Middle - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

13. Decorations - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

Selections - Modify - Contract - 2 Pixels
Flood-fill with #D1E5D9.


14. Windows Door - Get the Windows selection and Flood-fill with #83998C.

15. Flanges - Flood-fill with #83998C.

Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds
Width 5, Opacity 70, Colour Black, Horizontal checked.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 10, H 0, Opacity 43, Blur 15, Colour black.


16. Facing Rt - Flood fill with the pattern, Scale 35%, Angle 9.

PSP 7 - Effects - Sharpen - Sharpen
PSP 8 & 9 - Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen


17. Roof Rt - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

18. Trim Vertical - Flood-fill with #83998C.

19. Roof Rt Shadow - Staying on this layer, get the Roof Rt selection:

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 10, H 0, Opacity 43, Blur 15, Colour black.


20. Bevel - Flood-fill with #83998C.

21. Porch - Flood-fill with #83998C.

22. Porch Roof - Flood-fill with #595F5F.

23. Flange - Flood-fill with #83998C.

Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds
Width 5, Opacity 70, Colour Black, Horizontal checked.


24. Roof Bits - Flood-fill with #83998C.

25. Inside - Click on the Inside layer and get the Inside alpha selection, which is the last one. You can fill the windows with a pale yellow colour, indicating there are lights on inside, or make blinds by using the Blinds effect, or making drapes, using the Blinds effect.

To pick an individual window, just use the Selection Tool set to Rectangle, make the Rectangle around the window, and then click on the section with the Magic Wand . 26. Door - Go to the Windows layer and click in the door opening and flood-fill with #36413B.
