Gateleg Table

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. That's all you need besides the gateleg.zip file. You'll need to be familiar with flood-filling with patterns and with layers.

The terms of use are here

Each time a layer and selection are given, it means that a new layer
should be made, unless different directions are given, and
the selection gotten by going to Selections - Load from Disk.
1. Open a new image, 360 x 250.

2. Name this layer Side Drawer. Go to Selections - Load from disk and get 01sidedrawer.sel. Flood-fill with the wood pattern, Scale% 100, Angle 10. You can right click and save this one: If you don't like the wood texture provided, and excellent site for many, many woods is here.

3. Make a new layer, Front Drawer and get 02frontdrawer.sel. Flood-fill, changing the Angle to 351.

Go to Selections - Modify - Contract 5 pixels. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use the preset Soft Edge, changing the Width to 5 and using the following bevel - .

4. New layer, Under Table - 03undertable.sel. Flood-fill with an Angle of 356.

5. Top Side layer - 04topside.sel. Flood-fill with an Angle of 90. Then go to Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow with the following settings:

V 5, H 0, Opacity 33, Blur 3

6. Table Top - 05tabletop.sel. Flood-fill with an Angle of 355.

7. Left Leg - 06leftleg.sel. Open the bits.psp image from the *.zip file by clicking on it. Then go to the Legs layer, and copy (CTRL-C). Go back to your table image and paste by pressing SHIFT-CTRL-L. Now drag the layer to the bottom, or go to Layers - Arrange - Send to Bottom.

8. Click on Left Leg layer to make (we'll work our way up from now on). Back Legs - 07backleftleg.sel. Paste again, SHIFT-CTRL-L. It sticks up a bit, but we'll take care of that.

On the same layer, get 08backrightleg.sel. Paste again (just SHIFT-CTRL-L, you don't have to copy again).

Use the Eraser tool to get rid of the pieces sticking up behind the table top. The settings really don't matter, but I used:

Shape - Vertical, Size 15, Step 1, everything else 100.

9. Right Crosspiece - 08rightcrosspiece.sel. Go to the layer, Crosspiece, in the bits.psp image. Make sure it is not selected. Go to Image - Rotate - Left - Free 5 (degrees). Make a copy of this rotated image (CTRL-C, CTRL-V), because we'll use it again. You don't have to name it, because you probably won't want to save it. Then copy the crosspiece image (CTRL-C), and go back to your image and paste it into the selection.

10. Right Rectangle - 09rightrectangle.sel. Go back to the Crosspiece layer in bits.psp, and Undo (CTRL-Z or click on the rounded arrow in Tool Bar). Making sure it is not selected, now Rotate Right by 30. Go to your image and paste.

Keep selected, invert the selection (Selections - Invert), and go down to the Right Crosspiece layer, and with the Eraser Tool erase the piece sticking out:

11. Make another layer, Center crosspieces, above the Right Rectangle layer. Get 10frontcrosspiece.sel. Go back to the bits.psp file again, this time going to the Small Crosspiece layer. Copy and going back to your image, paste into the selection.

On the same layer, get 11middlecrosspiece.sel and paste (SHIFT-CTRL-L) the selection. You don't have to go back to the bits.psp file, since the crosspiece will remain in the clipboard. Then get 12backcrosspiece.sel and paste again.

12. Left Rectangle - 13leftrectangle.sel. Go back to bits.psp and copy the Crosspiece and paste it into your selection.

13. Left Crosspiece - 14leftcrosspiece.sel. Copy crosspiece in the image you made in Step 9, and paste it into the selection.

G 14. Right Leg - 15rightleg.sel. Going to the bits.psp image again, copy the leg and past into the selection. Erase the piece sticking over the table top.

15. Front Leg Layer - Get 16leftfrontleg.sel and copy and paste the leg into your image. Then get 17rightfrontleg.sel and do the same.

Just a few more things to do! Go back down to the Right Rectangle layer and erase the bit sticking out from the right front leg. You don't have to be too fussy, since it's under the front leg. :D

Table Sections

Make a layer above all the other layers. Set your foreground colour to black or dark brown (#402A1C), then click on the Draw Tool . Set it to

Single Line, Width 2, Create as Vector and Close Path unchecked.

I used the side drawer as a guide and then moved the line with the Mover Tool , and copied it (CTRL-C) and pasted (CTRL-E) and put the second line in place. (I made it green so you could see it):

Then get 05tabletop.sel, Selections - Invert, hit Delete. Then lower the opacity of the layer to around 33%.

Vertical Lines. Make a layer above the Top Side layer, and using the Draw Tool with the same settings, draw two vertical lines:

Get 04topside.sel, invert the selection, and delete. (I didn't lower the opacity on the sides.)

Congratulations!! You're all done.
