Colourising Wood Siding for Houses

In some of the tutorials I have provided an image for white siding. This can be colourised, but you get different results depending on whether you colourise the tile and then use it, or if you flood-fill your selection and then colourise. The tile on the left shows the results if you colourise the tile and then fill your selection, and the one on the right the results if you fill your selection with the white tile and then colourise.

As you can see, the image on the left is softer, and the one on the right, crisper. It's up to you which one you like better.

Soft Look--Colourise the white tile and use it the way you would any tile.
Crisp Look--Make an image, about 100 x 100 pixels, flood fill with with the white tile and then colourise, save, and you will have your own crisp tile.

Colourising

My favourite method is using Effects - Enhance Photo - Manual Color Correction. Here is how the screen looks (I left out the middle section):

To change the colour, first you must click on the box, Custom Color, shown by the yellow arrow. The familiar colour menu will pop up, and you can choose your colour. Next you must click on your image, which will be shown in the left screen.

Note that on the left-hand bottom, you are given two Options--Preserve lightness and preserve saturation. If you want exactly the colour you chose, you should leave them unchecked, although you can fiddle around with them and see what happens!

I learned about this method of colourising from an excellent tutorial on making an email button. There are a lot of great tutorials on this site!
