Glass China Cabinet Tutorial
This tutorial is quite easy, although you need to be familiar with layers and using the flood-fill tool with patterns and gradients.
All you need, besides PSP, is the
chinacabinet.zip file which has the selections and fill.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here
The terms of use are
here
Each time a selection file is given, it means a new layer is necessary. Then you get the selection by going to Selections - Load from Disk and clicking on the selection you need. 01whatever.sel calls for a new layer, Whatever, e.g., and then get the selection.
1. Open a new image, 380 x 570 pixels.
2. 01frontlegs.sel. Flood-fill with the pattern from the *.zip file, or any pattern or colour you prefer. Go to Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use these settings:
3. 02backstrips.sel. Flood-fill with your pattern.
4. This is the only tricky bit. For the upper shelf, open a new image, 350 x 170 pixels. Name the first layer, Rim, then make another layer and get glassshelf.sel, and flood-fill with the Metallic gradient, Angle 315, Repeats 0. Then go to:
Effects - Noise - Add - 12% uniform.
Then add the following drop shadow:
Temporarily turn off the upper layer and open the Rim layer. Get the glassshelf.sel again and again flood-fill with the metallic gradient that comes with PSP. (We won't add Noise for the rim.) Use the mover tool

to move the shelf down (it doesn't matter how far down, since you don't know where you want it until you turn on the upper layer).
Now turn on the upper layer, then go back down to the Rim layer, and move the image up until it looks like a rim:
You don't have to be too finicky, because the ends will be covered up by the side strips.
:-)
Merge all the layers (Merge-Visible) and then press CTRL-C, CTRL-A to copy the image.
5. Making a new layer, Shelves, get 03topshelf.sel. Press SHIFT-CTRL-L or go to:
Edit - Paste - Into Selection
and the shelf will be in place. Then get 03xbottomshelf.sel, and press SHIFT-CTRL-L, and the bottom shelf will be in place. Now you can lower the opacity to about 59.
5. 04backlegs.sel. Flood-fill and use the same Inner Bevel as before.
6. 05frontbottom.sel. Flood-fill.
7. 06insidebase.sel. Flood-fill.
8. 07basebevel.sel. Flood-fill and apply the following Inner Bevel:
9. 08frontglass.sel. Flood-fill with the metallic gradient, making sure the Angle is changed to 90
o, and lower the opacity of the layer to around 52%.
10. 09sidestrips.sel. Flood-fill with your pattern and apply the same inner bevel you used last.
11. 10lowercurve.sel. Flood-fill and apply the same Inner Bevel.
12. Make a new layer, Door--we'll come back to it after making the Door, because it uses a different Inner Bevel.
13. 12uppercurve.sel. Flood-fill and apply the Inner Bevel again.
14. Go back to the Door layer and get 11door.sel. Flood-fill and apply this Inner Bevel:
15. Click on the Upper Curve layer, and make a new layer, Top, get 13top.sel, and flood-fill.
You can use the handle you downloaded in the *.zip file, or make one of your own.
Congratulations--I hope you enjoyed making the cabinet!
Placing objects in the Cabinet. I found it best to turn off the Front Glass layer while doing this, and I made my layers for the objects between the Base Bevel and Front Glass layers.
