Antique Grease Lamp Tutorial
These lamps were mostly used in the kitchen and were filled with kitchen grease. The smallest specks in the grease would result in black smoke. I'm sure they were only used in desperation, when nothing else was available, or affordable!
This tutorial was written with PSP 7. All you'll need is the
greaselamp.zip file.
The terms of use are
here
NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here
1. Open a new image, 265 x 265 pixels. Call this layer,
Stand.
Set your foreground colour to #79685E and your background colour to #5F4C3E. Then set your Colour Pallette for Gradient. Scroll up to the top and click on
#1Foreground-Background, Linear Style, Angle 90
o, Repeats 0.
Now, get 01stand.sel, and flood-fill with the gradient.
2. Whatever layer - 02whatever.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient and then go to
Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Preset Frame.
3. Handle layer - 03handle.sel. Flood-fill and apply the same bevel.
4. Inside layer - We'll come back to this layer later, so that you don't have to re-set the gradient. :-)
5. Lamp layer - 05lamp.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient and go to
Selections - Invert
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V & H minus 7, Opacity 100, Blur 25, Colour #3E220E.
6. Lid Side layer - 06lidside.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient and apply the same Inner Bevel as before.
7. Lid layer - 07lid.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient.
8. Centre Side layer - 08centreside.sel. Flood-fill and apply the Inner Bevel again.
9. Centre layer - 09centre.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient.
10. Bolt layer - 10bolt.sel. Flood-fill with the gradient, and then go to
Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Metallic preset.
11. Click on the Inside layer in the Layer Pallette. Then get 04inside.sel and flood-fill with black.
Congratulations! You're all done. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
