NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here 1. Open a new image, 200 x 500 pixels. Flood-fill with white if you're planning on making the animation, and save the image as lighthouse.psp. Make a new layer, Light, and we'll come back to it later. 2. Balcony backs layer - 01balconyback.sel. Flood-fill with black. 2. Reflector layer - 02reflector.sel. Flood-fill with a metallic gradient. 3. The Light. Go back to Layer 1 by clicking on the layer in your Layer Pallette. Set your foreground colour to yellow (#FFFF00). Click on the Paintbrush Tool Click once, approximately in the centre of the reflector, and then go to Width 134, Opacity 100, Colour yellow That is quite bright, so you may want to lower the opacity of the layer by using the slider on the right-hand side of the Layer Pallette. (It is easier to judge this way than by adjusting the opacity in Eye Candy.) Click on the Reflector layer to make your next layer, Lighthouse. 4. Lighthouse layer - 03lighthouse.sel. Flood-fill with the Spatch pattern which comes with PSP, at Now is a good time to insert the windows. Click inside one of the openings with your Magic Wand Make a new layer Windows. Open the window.psp that you downloaded in the lighthouse.zip file, by clicking on it, and copy (CTRL-C). Then go back to the Windows layer in your lighthouse image and paste into the selection (SHIFT-CTRL-L). Press CTRL-E and place the next window over the other opening. 5. Door layer - 04door.sel. Flood-fill with the colour of your choice. (I used #191919.) 6. Lower Balcony layer - 05lowerbalcony.sel. Flood-fill with black. 7. Glass layer - 06glass.sel. Flood-fill with light gray (#C0C0C0) and lower the opacity of the layer until it looks good to you. You could omit this layer, since you wouldn't really "see" the glass unless there were a reflection. 8. Upper Balcony layer - 07upperbalcony.sel. Flood-fill with black. 9. Window Supports layer - 08windowsupports.sel. Flood-fill with black, or the colour you used for the upper balcony. 10. Inside Roof layer - 09insideroof.sel. Flood-fill with dark gray (#404040). 11. Spire layer - 10spire.sel. Flood-fill with black. 12. Roof layer - 11roof.sel. Flood-fill with #400000, or any colour that gives a little contrast to black. (Or flood-fill with black and use a contrasting colour for the roof trim which comes next.) 13. Roof Trim layer - 12rooftrim.sel. Flood-fill with black. 14. Foundation layer. Use your Selection Tool Optional Red Stripes Set your foreground colour to red (#C00000). Use the Draw Tool and draw either straight or diagonal stripes. (You can just draw one, and then copy (CTRL-C) and paste (CTRL-E) the next ones. To match the texture of the lighthouse, go to Pick Dark Stucco.bump and apply, then go to Effects - Blur - Blur If you're planning to animate the lighthouse, save, but don't merge layers. Congratulations! I hope you like your lighthouse. If you wish to animate your lighthouse, please go to the next page. NEXT If you have any questions or comments, our email contact is here.
