Federal Dresser and Mirror Tutorial

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. All you will need is this *.zip file, and a gold gradient. You can find a nice one at Daydreamer's Designs.

The terms of use are here
NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 375 x 500 pixels. Open the woodtilt.jpg texture you downloaded in the *.zip file, and leave it on the workspace.

Get 01legs.sel and Flood-fill with the woodtilt texture.

2. Supports layer - 02supports.sel. Flood-fill.

3. Pegs layer - 03pegs.sel. Flood-fill and go to

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Round preset, and apply.

4. Mirror layer - 04mirror.sel. Flood-fill. Then go to

Selections - Modify - Contract 15 pixels, hit DELETE, then
Selections - Invert

Use the Magic Wand to click on the frame, and go to

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Round preset
Change the Width to 1, and the Smoothness to 0, and apply.

5. Use the Magic Wand to click inside the mirror frame and go to

Selections - Modify - Expand - 1 pixel
Flood-fill with the gold gradient (Angle 140, Repeats 0), and then go to
Selections - Modify - Contract - 3 pixels
Flood-fill with the Metallic gradient in the Colour Pallette.

6. Front layer - 05front.sel. Flood-fill.

7. Upper Dresser layer - 06upperdresser.sel. Flood-fill and go to

Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast
Brightness minus 20, Contrast 0.

8. Top layer - 07top.sel. Flood-fill.

9. Top Front layer - 08topfront.sel. Flood-fill and use the Inner Bevel Frame preset.

10. Top drawers layer - 09topdrawers.sel. Flood-fill, and apply the Round preset again, changing

Width - 1, Ambience - minus 20.

11. Drawers layer - 10drawers.sel. Flood-fill and apply the same Inner Bevel.

12. Drop Shadow. Get 05front.sel. Go to

Selections - Invert and then
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
Vertical 0, Horizontal 25, Opacity 28, Blur 50
Repeat the Drop Shadow, changing the Horizontal to minus 50.

12. S layer - 11esses.sel. Flood-fill. Almost done!

13. Lower Drawer pulls layer. Open the pulls.psp image you downloaded, and copy (CTRL-C), then go back to your Dresser image and paste into place (CTRL-E). You don't have to go back to the pulls.psp image, just press CTRL-E for each pull and put them in place.

After you've placed them all, if you want to move one, use the Selection Tool to draw a rectangle around the one you want to move. Then click on it with the Magic Wand and it will be selected, and you can move it with the Mover Tool .

The easiest way to move it is to press the SHIFT key and move it by using the Arrow keys on your keyboard. This will move the pull one pixel at a time.

14. Upper pulls layer. Go back to the pulls.psp image, and go to

Image - Resize - 75%
and go to
Effects - Sharpen - Sharpen twice.

Now you can paste these smaller pulls on the upper drawers. If you want to save the pulls.psp image in the original size, just click on the X in the upper right-hand corner, and when PSP asks if you want to save the changes, click on No.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoyed making your dresser.
