Victorian Row House

Painted Ladies

These Victorian houses are everywhere, especially the ones in San Francisco, which are called Painted Ladies. This tutorial was done with PSP 8, but you should be able to do it with any earlier versions that take Alpha Channels.

You will need:

Row House Selections
Entry File and Garage File

The terms of use are here

If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

There is a short tutorial for the Materials Pallette in PSP 8 here.

Customising the Entry

1. Open the entry.psp file you downloaded and if you think you might use it again, make a copy by pressing SHIFT-D and close the original. If you want the pink stones, just right-click on any of the layers, and Merge - Merge Visible and go to Step 3.

2. If you want a different colour for the posts and stair sides, click on the post or stair sides layer. Then

Press CTRL-A, CTRL-F, SHIFT-CTRL-F to select
Flood-fill with the colour of your choice. Then go to:

Selections - Invert
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V & H 0, Opacity 35, Blur 10, Colour black.
Repeat these steps with the other layer you want to change.

If you want to change the Porch Floor colour or pattern, use the same technique, but don't add the Drop Shadow.

3. Right-click on any layer in the Layer Pallette, and Merge - Merge Visible.

4. Copy the image (CTRL-C).

5. Open the paintedladyalpha.psp file you downloaded. If you think you might want to make more than one house, just copy the image by pressing SHIFT-D and close the original.

6. Click on the Entry layer in this image, and get the Entry selection by going to:

Selections - Load/Save Selections - Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Click on the Entry selection (it's the last one) and then click on Load
(PSP 7 - Selections - Load from Alpha Channel)
Paste the Entry image into the selection by pressing SHIFT-CTRL-L
