Antique Parlor Stove Tutorial

This tutorial was written with PSP 8, but can be done with earlier versions, and is quite easy to do.

All you will need is
parlorstove file
A nice decorative font. I used Baxter font

If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Click on the first layer, Back Legs. Then go to

Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load from Alpha Channel
Click on the Back Legs selection, and then on Load

Flood-fill with #575757.


2. Legs - Get the Legs selection the same way and flood-fill with the same colour.

3. Facade - get the selection and flood-fill with the same colour.

4. Side Bands - get the selection and flood-fill with the same colour. Then go to:

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel
Metallic Preset--change the Smoothness to 38 and the Depth to 1.


5. Top - get selection and flood-fill with the gray colour. Go to:

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 5, H 0, Opacity 49, Blur 5, Colour Black.


6. Shelf Front - flood-fill with #383838.

7. Shelf - flood fill with #383838. Go to

Selections - Modify - Contract - 3 pixels
Flood-fill with #575757


8. Lower Band - Flood-fill with #575757. Then apply the same Inner Bevel as before.

9. Grille - Flood-fill with #383838.

10. Door Frame - Flood-fill with black.

11. Doors - Flood-fill with #575757.

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel Get the Metallic preset, so it's back at default
Change the Ambience to minus 100.


12. Top Pedestal - Flood-fill with #575757 and apply the same Inner Bevel.

13. Initials. Click on the Text Tool and then on the image, over one of the doors. Turn off the Stroke and for the fill use #C1C1BF. Use Bold and Floating. (If you're using Baxter, make the size 36.) Place the initial you're using in the middle of one of the doors. Then use the Metallic Inner Bevel.

Copy the initial (CTRL-C) and paste (CTRL-E) the second initial over the other door.

14. Outline - Flood-fill with #C1C1BF and apply the Metallic Inner Bevel again.

15. Windows & Borders - Flood-fill with #C1C1BF again.

16. Facade Shadow - Flood-fill with black and then lower the opacity of the Facade Shadow layer to 50 by using the slider in the Layer Pallette.

17. Door Outline - Flood-fill with #C1C1BF and apply the Metallic Inner Bevel.

18. Roof - Flood-fill with #575757. Then go to:

Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds
Width 3, Opacity 20, Horizontal checked, Light from Left/Top checked
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 5, H 0, Opacity 50, Blur 5, Colour black.


19. Diamonds - Flood-fill with #C1C1BF.

20. Hinges - Flood-fill with black and apply the Metallic Inner Bevel preset again.

21. Doodads - Just open the layer, and they're all there!
