Victorian Photo Album Tutorial
This tutorial is quite easy and quick to do. You'll need only to be familiar with the Colours/Material Pallette and the Text Tool. Directions are given for PSP 7 and 8.
You will need the
photoalbum.zip file containing the Alpha Selections, a gold gradient, two pictures to put in your album, and a nice font. There are some nice script fonts
here, and a nice gold gradient
here.
The terms of use are
here
Note: Some people have found that they cannot get the *.zip file to download unless they turn off their ad-filters.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here
There is a short tutorial for the Materials Pallette in PSP 8 here.
1. Open the photoalbumalpha.psp file you downloaded, and click on the Latch Loop layer in the Layer Pallette. Go to
Selections - Load from Alpha Channel - Latch Loop
Selections - Load/Save Selections - Load selection from Alpha Channel - Latch Loop
Flood-fill with white and go to
Effects - Texture Effects - Sculpture - Gold preset.
2. Latch Layer - Latch selection. Flood-fill with white and use the same Gold preset.
3. Cover layer - Cover selection. Flood-fill with any colour you like (I used #004000).
On the same layer, get the Cover Ends selection. Then darken the ends by going to
Colours - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast
Adjust - Brightness and Contrast - Brightness/Contrast
Brightness minus 45
(with different colours, you may not want to darken as much)
4. The next two layers are for inserting your own pictures, later. Click on the Page Sides layer and get the Page Sides layer.
Flood-fill with your gold gradient
Linear Gradient, Angle 318, Repeats 0
5. Pages layer - Pages selection. Flood-fill with #FFF7DE.
7. Inner Binding layer - Inner Binding selection. Flood-fill with #664800. Then go to
Effects - Texture Effects - Texture
Click on the image in the pop-up menu
Then click on the blocks.bmp texture (#3 in PSP 7)
Make the Size 25.
8. Page Lines layer - Page Lines selection. Flood-fill with black.
9. Frames layer - Frames selection. Flood-fill with #A99595.
10. Titles layers. Click on the layer, and using the Text tool

, type in the names or a title for your photos. (I used Shelley Adante BT, Size 14.) Deselect. For the right page, go to
Image - Rotate - Right 3o,
Make sure All Layers is not checked.
For the left page, rotate left.
To make the writing seem a little fading, lower the opacity of the layers by moving the slider in the Layer Pallette to around 75%.
11. Your Photos. Copy your photo (CTRL-C). Then click on the Your Picture Right (or Left) layer and paste the photo in (CTRL-E). Use the Mover Tool

if you need to adjust.
Remember, if your pictures are too large, you can always resize by going to Image - Resize--just remember to make sure that All Layers is not checked. :-)
Congratulations. I hope you like your album.
