Victorian Jardinière Tutorial

The terms of use are here

This Jardinière was my MIL's, who inherited it from her aunt, and it is probably around 100 years old, making it truly Victorian.

This tutorial was written for PSP 7, but should be do-able in earlier versions.

You will need, of course, PSP, and my plantstand.zip file.

If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

There is a short tutorial for the Materials Pallette in PSP 8 here.

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.

The Flower Pot

1. Open the jardinierealpha.psp file you downloaded.

1. Inside Bowl layer - Flood-fill with #70A273.

2. Back Rim layer - Flood-fill with the same colour:

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 2, H 0, Opacity 50, Blur 4, Colour black.

3. Bowl layer (we're skippin the Insert Plant/Flower layer). Flood-fill with the green again and go to

Effects - Texture Effects - Texture

4. Top Rim layer - Apply the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow as in Step 2.

5. Stand - Flood-fill with your colour and apply the same Texture Effect as in Step 3.

7. Stand Rim layer - Flood-fill and apply the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow as in Steps 2 and 4.

8. Tan Band 1 layer. Open the tanfill.jpg image you downloaded and leave it open on your desktop. Then you can flood-fill the band with this pattern.

9. Small Bands layer - Flood-fill with #FFF4C7 and apply the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadows we've been using.

10. Tan Band 2 layer - Flood-fill with the tanfill.jpg pattern and go to

Selections - Modify - Contract 3 pixels
Selections - Invert
Use the Magic Wand to click on the outside rim:

Flood-fill the selection with #FFF4C7.

Then apply the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow we've been using.

11. Click on the Upper Flower layer and then open the flower.psp image, copy (CTRL-C) and place on the upper band in your image.

12. Click on the Lower Flower layer. Then click on the flower image and go to

Image - Resize - 75% of Original
Make sure Resize all layers is NOT checked and Maintain Aspect Ration is!
Copy the flower (CTRL-C)
Click on your jardiniere image
Paste (CTRL-E) the flower on one of the sides of the lower band

Layers - Duplicate
Image - Mirror
Use the Mover Tool if you have to.

13. Now, if you wish, all you have to do is to place some flowers or plants in your jardiniere. Copy the flowers or plants from an image you have, or use a tube, and just paste your flowers on the Insert Plants or Flowers layer, and you're done! < br>
