Easy Shieldback Chair Tutorial
Shield-back Dining Chair Tutorial

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. You will need the selection file. (Only 4 selections!)

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 250 x 350 pixels. Get 01legs.sel and Flood-fill with the Finished Wood pattern in the Colour Pallette, or any pattern you prefer. Then go to

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Pillow preset and apply.

2. Back layer - 02back.sel. Flood-fill and apply the same Inner Bevel.

3. Seat front layer - 03Saturday, February 01, 2003seatfront.sel. Flood-fill with the colour or pattern of your choice. Then go to

Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast, and set
Brightness minus 20, Contrast 0

4. Seat layer - 04seat.sel. Flood-fill with your colour and pattern. You're all done! Wasn't that easy?

Optional Tapestry Look

If you want a tapestry look, you can apply it to a pattern, or you can place a design or tube on the seat. Then go to

Effects - Texture Effect - Blinds

Width 3, Opacity 38, Horizontal checked, colour black then repeat,
Width 3, Opacity 38, Horizontal unchecked.

NOTE: Depending on the colour of your seat, you may need to increase or decrease the Opacity.

You may need to Sharpen by going to Effects - Sharpen - Sharpen.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
