Stickhouse PSP Tutorial

This tutorial was made with PSP 9. It can be done with PSP 8, but not earlier versions, since they can't handle the number of alpha selections. The tutorial is suitable for beginners.

All you will need is the Stick House file.

How to Get The Alpha Selections
Selections - Load/Save Selections - Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Click on the selection you want and then on Load


1. Foundation layer - Flood-fill with #797575.

2. Side Porch - Just open the layer. :D

3. Chimney - Flood-fill with the 01 Brick pattern that comes with PSP, Size 25%, Angle 0.

Colours - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast
Brightness minus 50, Contrast 0.


4. Roof - Flood-fill with the Nested Squares pattern in the Materials Palette, Angle 0, Scale 58.

5. Slabs - Flood-fill with #979796.

6. Tower - Flood-fill with #6D6A6B.

7. Tower Top - Flood-fill with #979796.

Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds
Width 3, Opacity 100, Colour Black
Horizontal and Light from left/top are checked.


8. Inside - Flood-fill with any pale colour but white--you can change it later.

9. We'll skip the Window Shadow layer and go on to the Facade layer. Flood-fill with #68906B.

10. Top Facade - Flood-fill with #A9CEAD.

11. Door - Flood-fill with #637B63.

12. Spindles - Flood-fill with #344C33.

13. We'll come back to the Windows Shadows layer later.

14. Trim - Flood-fill with white.

15. Left Extension selection. We'll leave this selection empty, just using it to make a drop shadow.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V - 0, H 12, Opacity 50, Blur 16, Colour Black


16. Middle Selection Selection - Apply the same Drop Shadow again.

17. X's - Just open the layer.

18. Skip the Entry Design layer and click on the Entry Top layer - Flood-fill with #A9CEAD.

19. Using the Magic Wand click in the openings of the Entry Top, holding the Shift Key down, so they're all selected:



Keeping the openings selected, click on the Entry Design layer and Flood-fill with #68906B.

Effects - Texture Effects - Weave
Gap Size 1
Width 8
Opacity 100
Weave Color - #404040
Leave Fill Gap unchecked


20. Roof Squares - Flood-fill with black.

21. Horizontals - Flood-fill with #C0BFBF.

22. Roof Front 2 - Flood-fill with white.

23. Roof Front 1 - Flood-fill with white.

24. Entry Roof 1 - Flood-fill with #A9CEAD.

25. Stairs - Just open the layer.

26. Porch Posts - Flood-fill with #A9CEAD.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V 0, H 2, Opacity 62, Blur 3, Colour black.


27. Lines - Flood-fill with Black. Then lower the opacity of the layer to around 15 by using the slider in the Layer Pallette.

28. Window Shadows - Go to the Facade layer and, using the Magic Wand, click in each window opening to select the window shapes. Then click on the Window Shadows layer and go to:

Selections - Invert
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V & H 8, Opacity 50, Blur 8, Colour Black.
