Sunbonnet Tutorial

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. All you will need is the bonnet file and, if you wish a fabric pattern..

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.

If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 300 x 300 pixels. Name this layer, Crown, and get crown.sel. Flood-fill with a colour, or your pattern. Then go to

Selections - Float
Effects - 3D Effects - Cutout
V & H minus 1, Opacity 49, Blur 32

If you have a light colour, you may want to reduct the Opacity more.

2. Pleats layer - pleats.sel. Flood-fill with a much darker shade of the colour you used, or a shade darker than the darker shade in your fabric, or black. Deselect, CTRL-D. Then go go:

Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur - 2

3. Brim layer - brim.sel. Flood-fill with your colour or pattern.

4. Stitching layer - stitching.sel. Flood-fill with a colour that will show up against your fabric/brim colour. Deselect. Then, take the Magic Wand Tool , and holding down the SHIFT key, click in each space, like this:

Now, open the brim layer, by clicking on it in the Layer Pallette, and go to

Selections - Modify - Expand 1 pixel, and then
Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel
Pillow Preset - change the Ambience to 42.

If you have a very dark colour, you can skip this step, since the bevel will not really be too effective.

5. Click on the Stitching layer and then make a new layer, Band, and get band.sel. Flood-fill with any colour or pattern you like.

6. Decoration layer - get deco.sel. Flood-fill. Of course, bows, flowers, or buttons would look nice, too.

7. Ribbons layer. Move this layer down (Layers - Arrange - Send to Bottom). Then, using the Draw Tool , with a width of around 12, draw your ribbons, and you're done!
