Colonial Town House

This tutorial was made with PSP 7, but should work with earlier versions. All you need is the townhouse file with the selections.

You can get the lamp post here, or you can make your own by doing the Choo Choo tutorial, here.

The terms of use are here
NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 480 x 500 pixels. Name your new layer Window Wood. Get 01windowwood.sel and flood-fill with brown. (I used #5D4D3D.)

2. Front layer - 02front.sel. Flood-fill with #A55544. Then go to Effects - Texture Effects - Texture, and use Brick2.bmp, Size 25.

If you want a more aged effect, keep the front selected, make a new layer, and use the Air Brush tool with these settings:

Shape - Round
Size 255, Hardness 50
Opacity 100, Step 20, Density 10

Click lightly over the image, and then go to

Effects - Blur - Gaussian Blur - Radius 5.

Then lower the opacity of this layer by using the slider in the Layer Pallete, to about 55%, or whatever looks good to you.

3. Windows layer - 03windows.sel. Flood-fill with #800000. To give a little depth to the windows, click with the Magic Wand inside each window (remember to hold down the Shift key). Then go to

Selections - Invert and then to
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
Vertical & Horizontal 3, Opacity 100, Blur 11, Colour black.

4. Small Windows layer - 04smallwindows.sel. Flood-fill with #800000.

5. Shutters layer - 05shutters.sel. Flood-fill with dark gray, #404040. Then go to

Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds
Width 5, Opacity 35, Colour black, check Horizontal.

6. Small Shutters layer - 06shutterssmall.sel. Flood-fill with #404040 and use the same Blinds effect as in the last step.

7. Chimney Layer. We'll come back to this layer.

8. Roof Layer - 07roof.sel. Flood-fill with #292929.

9. Go back to the Chimney layer. Draw a rectangle with the Selection Tool, and flood-fill with Black. Then go back to the Roof layer and click on the layer to make the next layer, Door Frame.

10. Door Frame layer - 08doorframe.sel. Flood-fill with #F0E3B7.

11. Door Overhang layer - 09dooroverhang.sel. Flood-fill with #F0E3B7, and then to go

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow
V & H 3, Opacity 100, Blur 10, Colour black.

12. Door layer - 10door.sel. Flood-fill with dark gray, #404040 (or any colour you prefer).

13. Door Panel layer - 11doorpanel.sel. Flood-fill with the same colour as the door, and go to

Effects - 3D Effects - Buttonise
Height & Width 5, Opacity 30, check Transparent Edge.

Copy (CTRL-C), make a new layer, and paste (CTRL-E) and move the copied panel to the bottom of the door. Then make a new layer, press CTRL-E again, and place this copy in between the two other panels. If you don't like the placement on any of the layers, use the Mover Tool to move them.

14. Riser layer - 12riserlayer.sel. Flood-fill with #8D765F.

15. Step layer - 13step.sel. Flood-fill with #A6937E.

16. Street layer - 14street.sel. Flood-fill with #B95F4C. Go to Effects - Texture Effects - Textures and use Medium Bricks, Width 50.

Then click on the Deformation Tool . Press the CTRL key and drag out one of the lower corner squares:

You're all done! Congratulations. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
