Trestle Table & Bench Tutorial

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. It is quite short and very easy. All you will need is the trestle file.

The basket of veggies is a tube from Pearl Design.

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 400 x 250 pixels. Open the wood pattern you downloaded so you can find it in the Colour Pallette. Call this layer Legs, get 01legs.sel. Then flood-fill with the wood texture you downloaded, or the Stained Wood pattern in the Colour Pallette with Scale 40, Angle 90, or a colour you like, if you want a painted table.

2. Leg Front layer - 02frontends.sel. Flood-fill and go to:

Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast and set
Brightness minus 30, Contrast 0.

3. Crosspiece Layer - 03crosspiece. If you use the downloaded fill, change the Angle in the Colour Pallette to 90o. If you are using the Stained Wood pattern, change the Angle to 0o. Then Flood-fill.

4. Crosspiece Top layer - 04crosspiecetop.sel. Flood-fill with the same settings, and go to Colors - Adjust - Brightness again and darken with the same settings.

5. Top Front layer - 05topfront.sel. Flood-fill with the same settings.

6. Top layer - 06top.sel. Flood-fill, and your table is done!

OPTIONAL. If you would like a planked look for your table, set your foreground colour to black. Then make a new layer, click on the Draw Tool , and use the following settings:

Type: Single Line
Width 2
Line Style - #1 Solid
Antialias checked

Draw two straight lines across the Table Top--don't worry about making them go past the top. Get 06top.sel and go to
Selections - Invert and hit the DELETE key.

This gets rid of any overlap. Then lower the opacity of this layer by using the slider in the Layer Pallette, to around 25-30%--whatever looks good!

7. Merging. Now you can right-click on any of the layers in the Layer Pallette and Merge - Merge Visible.

THE BENCH

1. If you wish to make the bench separately, open another image, 400 x 250. If you want to make the bench in the same image, just add a new layer - Bench Legs.

Get 07benchlegs.sel and flood-fill, changing the Angles of your pattern (either to 0o or 90o) so the wood grain is vertical.

2. Bench Leg Fronts layer - 08benchlegsfront.sel. Flood-fill with the same settings.

3. Bench Front layer - 09benchfront.sel. Change the Angle of your wood pattern so that the grain is horizontal and Flood-fill. Then darken the front by minus 30.

4. Bench Top layer - 10benchtop.sel. Flood-fill with the same settings, and you're all done!

If you made a separate image, you can Merge the layers directly. If you made the bench in the same image as the Table, just turn off the Harvest Table layer by clicking on the glasses in the Layer Pallette, and then Merge the bench layers. Congratulations! I hope you enjoyed making the table and bench.
