Dream House Tutorial
The terms of use are here.This tutorial was done with PSP7, but should work with earlier versions. For this Victorian House tutorial you will need PSP and the zip file that contains the selections, windows, and front door. Here
You should be familiar with using layers and the flood-fill tool using patterns.
Let's Begin!
Open the zip file, placing the *.sel and *.psp files in a folder. You can open the windows, stair and door images on your workspace now, or when you're ready to add them.Open a new file, 390 x 440 pixels.
Name the first layer, Background, so you won't have to fiddle around with moving layers if you wnat to add a background layer later.
1. Make a new layer, and call it Basic House. Load the 01basichouse.sel file by going to:
Selections - Load from Disk
and double-clicking on 01.basichouse.sel.
You will have marching ants around the selection, and now you can fill it with any colour, pattern, or effect you wish. I used the "Blinds" effect to simulate painted wood siding.
Use the Flood Fill tool
to fill the selection with the colour you like, and then go to: Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds
I used a width of 10, opacity 14, colour black. You can make either horizontal or vertical siding. On the other hand, you may wish to leave it plain, which has more of a "fun" look. Do not deselect--we will be adding a drop shadow.
NOTE: Different Fills: The Spatch pattern in the styles box of the Colour Pallete makes a nice stucco effect. Filling with white, and then going to Effects-Sculpture-Mahogany gives a log-cabin effect, and filling with the colour of your choice and then going to Effects - Texture gives you bricks, stones, whatever you like. Now is a good time to add a drop shadow [Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow] to the Basic House selection as below:
Depending on the colours you use, you may want to change the opacity or the shadow colour.
2. Make a new layer, Side Annex, and get the 02sideannex.sel selection, fill it with any colour you like and use the Blinds as in Step 1, or any other method you like.
3.Make a new layer, Side Annex Windows, but leave it blank for now. It's hard to place the windows until the porch roof layer is made.
4. Make a new layer, Front Annex, and open 03frontannex.sel. Again, fill and/or add the Blind effect, and add the drop shadow.
5. Make another layer we'll use later, Front Windows, and then another layer, Door.
Your Layer Pallette will look like this

5. Make another layer we'll use later, Front Windows, and then another layer, Door.

6. Now, time for another layer - Back Turret, with
04backturret.sel. Fill with a color, and add the same Blinds effect, or
shingles, or whatever you're using, and the same Drop Shadow.
7. The next layer should be Basic House Roof, with 05basichouseroof.sel. Fill and add the drop shadow. Now, it's really beginning to look like a house!
9. New layer - Chimneys, with 07chimneys.sel. You can fill with a colour, or use the Brick pattern in the Styles box of the Colour Pallette, and add the drop shadow. Your house should be looking something like this:
7. The next layer should be Basic House Roof, with 05basichouseroof.sel. Fill and add the drop shadow. Now, it's really beginning to look like a house!
Note: if you would like to have roof shingles, go here8. Make a new layer, Side Annex Roof, with 06sideannex.sel. Flood Fill with the colour of your choice, and if you wish, add the Blinds effect, this time with a Width=5, Opacity=60. Depending on the colour you use, you may want to lower or raise the opacity. Add the drop shadow again.
9. New layer - Chimneys, with 07chimneys.sel. You can fill with a colour, or use the Brick pattern in the Styles box of the Colour Pallette, and add the drop shadow. Your house should be looking something like this:
10. New layer - Dormer - 08dormer.sel. Fill and add drop shadow again.
11. New layer - Dormer Roof - 09dormerroof.sel. Fill and add the drop shadow. Notice how dark the drop shadow is? Let's fix it. Go to Selections - Invert, and using the Eraser Tool
, erase the shadow on the two outside edges of the Dormer Roof.
12. While we're working on the dormer, let's add the Dormer Window. Make a new layer, Dormer Window. If you haven't already opened dormer.psp, now's the time to do it. Click on the image and press Ctrl-A, then Ctrl-C. Now go to the Dormer Window layer on your house and press Ctrl-E and move the window into place.

11. New layer - Dormer Roof - 09dormerroof.sel. Fill and add the drop shadow. Notice how dark the drop shadow is? Let's fix it. Go to Selections - Invert, and using the Eraser Tool
