Victorian Velvet Purse

This tutorial was written with PSP 7. You will need:

velvetpurse.zip
Place the *.q5q and *.bmp files in the environments and textures folder in Super Blade Pro.
Design 5 Font. Hint: To find the font, use Edit - Find and type in Design
Note: You don't have to install the font. Just click on it in your zip program, so it's open on the desktop.
Super Blade Pro

The terms of use are here

NOTE: Each step which needs a new layer will use the format with the name of the new layer, and then the selection for that layer. So Whatever layer - whatever.sel, means make a new layer Whatever, and then get the whatever.sel file by going to Selections - Load from disk.
If you aren't familiar with using the Colour Pallette for patterns, there is a short explanation here

1. Open a new image, 350 x 350 pixels. Get the purse.sel and flood-fill with black, or any colour you want your purse to be.

2. Decoration layer. Place your Mover Tool in the middle of the top curve of the purse. Using the Text Tool , use the Design5 font, Capital letter K, Size 60, with no stroke, colour white.

Go to Effects - Plugin Filters - Flaming Pear - SuperBladePro - Silver preset

With your Magic Wand , click anywhere on the empty space outside the image, then go to

Selections - Invert, keep selected.

3. Click on the Purse layer (your first layer) and make a new layer, Backing. Flood-fill the selection with white.

4. Turn off the Purse layer by clicking on the glasses in the Layer Pallette, and then right-click on one of the other layers, and Merge Visible. Rename this merged layer Decoration.

4. Side Decoration layer. Turn on the Purse layer by clicking on the red X in the layer pallette, and then click on the Decoration layer, and go to

Layers - Duplicate
Image - Rotate - Right - 75o, making sure All layers is *not* checked!

Using the Mover Tool, place this image up against the original decoration, something like this:

5. Now it's time to duplicate this layer and make the other side:

Layers - Duplicate
Image - Mirror

If necessary, use the Mover Tool to adjust this second side decoration.

6. Close the Purse and Decoration layers, and merge the two Side Decoration layers. Rename this merged layer Side Decorations.

7. Open all the layers, and, in the Layer Pallette, drag the Side Decorations layer to the bottom, or go to Layers - Arrange - Send to bottom.

8. Knob layer. Click on the Decoration layer, which should be at the top, and with the Selection Tool , Feather 0, Antialias checked, draw a small circle. Flood-fill this circle with white, and apply the SuperBladePro preset again.

9. Handles layer. Make this new layer and drag it to the bottom. Then click on the Tube Tool and find the Rope tube. Set it to Size 35 (or less, if you prefer), and draw the handles any way you like. Now we have to get rid of that colour! Go to

Colours - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast
Brightness minus 255, Contrast 0.

You're all done! Congratulations! I hope you like your purse.
