Well Tutorial

I remember the old wells on the farms, and decided to try making one, and came up with two.

The tutorial is written for PSP 7, but I'd guess would work in earlier versions.

Besides PSP 7, you will need the selections file, here.

NOTE: Special instructions for the Dream Well are in green.

1. Well, naturally, you begin by opening a new file. Make this file 260 x 290 pixels, so that the selections will be in the right place.

2. Dream Well only - make a new layer name it Back Lattice and get dwbacklattice.sel by going to:

Selections - Load From Disk, click on dwbacklattice.sel.

Use the Flood-Fill tool

and fill with white.

3.Make another layer and make name it Base. Go to:

Selections - Load From Disk,

and click on 01wellbase.sel (or dwbase.sel for the dream well.)

4. Use the Flood-Fill tool

to fill the base with the barnsiding shown below with the percentage set to 32 (right click to save it to your disc).

If you want the same colour I have on the siding, open that image, and go to:

Effects - Enhance Photo - Manual Color Correction

and use the same settings as below, and fill with the colourised siding:

For the Dream Well, make a new layer, Base Lattice, and get the dwbaselattice.sel file. Use the Flood- Fill tool again to fill the lattice with white.

5.Make the next layer Outer Oval and get the 02outeroval.sel file.
(Dream Well - get dwouteroval.sel file.) Flood Fill the oval with the siding or colour of your choice. Now go to:

Selections - Modify - Contract --5 pixels.

Flood Fill the oval with the colour/pattern of your choice. Then darken the inner oval by going to

Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast, with Brightness -40, Contrast 0,

or add a vertical blinds effect. Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds, Width 3, Opacity 29.

Go to

Selections - Invert,

click on the outer oval to select it, and then go to:

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel and use the Soft Edge preset.

6.Add another layer, name it Inner Roof, and use 03innerroof.sel or dwinnerroof.sel. Flood fill with your pattern/color and darken by going to Colors - Adjust - Brightness/Contrast, with the same numbers as before. Or, use the Blinds effect.

7.Make another layer, Back Posts, using 04backposts.sel. Dream Well - Make a layer, posts, and use dwposts.sel. Fill as you wish.

8. Dream Well - skip this step.
Add another layer - Side posts, and use 05sideposts.sel. Fill the same as you did the back posts.

9.Dream Well only - make a new layer, Roof Bits, and use dwroofbit.sel, and flood fill with white.

10. Make a layer, Roof, and use 06roof.sel/dwrooflattice.sel. Flood fill the roof with the barn siding, and the and the lattice with white.

Optional for the wood well--use the fancy shingle file in the *.zip file to fill the roof. Click on the shingle file, press CTRL-A, CTRL-C, and then go to your well image, on the Roof layer, with the marching ants around the selection, and go to Edit - Paste - Into Selection.
